7 Easy Tips To Improve Your Skin.

Did you know your skin is your largest organ? With that being said, it's important to take care of your skin. As a licensed esthetician, I love helping people gain confidence in their skin. Whether you want to help prevent acne or just take better care of your skin, check out my tips below!

1. WATER.

Drink water. I made this my first point because you can fail at everything else but if you drink water, there is hope. Water helps flush out toxins from your body, helps hydrates your skin and helps just about everything else in your life. As cliche as it sounds, consistently drinking more water really does improve your skin.

2. Wash your pillow case.

Your pillow case touches your face every single day. It absorbs oil from your face in your sleep and touches every part of your face. Every night when you lay down, you’re putting those same oils from the night before back onto your face. You wouldn't wear the same shirt for a month so why sleep on the same pillow case?

3. Moisturize.

Whether your skin is oily, dry or normal you NEED to moisturize. Most people with oily skin think they already have too much oil so they don't need to moisturize, but this couldn't be further from the truth. If you do have oily skin, you especially need to moisturize so that your skin is hydrated properly and won't overproduce oil. It's all about balance.

4. You really are what you eat.  

Going back to drinking more water, your skin reflects what you put into your body. Processed foods, sugar, and dairy have been linked to skin problems like acne. If you're putting junk into your body, how can you expect to look like a glowing goddess on the outside? A few months I ago, I cut down on my dairy intake significantly by eliminating milk and cutting back on my cheese consumption. The breakouts on my back have cleared up, my eczema has stopped flaring up and overall my skin is thanking me. Even though I don’t know for sure if I have a lactose intolerance problem, I can tell a major difference in my skin and the way I feel.

5. Be protected. 

Along with moisturizing daily, you should also be wearing SPF daily. Whether it's summer or winter, your skin is exposed to harmful UVA & UVB rays. By wearing sunscreen daily, you can help prevent skin cancer, wrinkles and sun spots! Just because you can’t see your skin’s sun damage now, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Be proactive!

6. Never ever go to sleep with your makeup on.

No matter how tired you are, always take your makeup off before bed. Clogged pores, break outs, and damage to your eyelashes can all occur when you go to sleep with a full face. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve fallen asleep with makeup on in the past 5 years. I don’t know about y’all, but I feel so gross if I can’t take my makeup off at the end of the day. Make removing your makeup before bed a priority!

7. Wash your makeup brushes and beauty blender.

Raise your hand if your beauty blender is currently disgusting…if it’s got black dots on it throw that thing AWAY. Mold can easily grow on beauty sponges and if you aren’t keeping them sanitary then you’re literally applying that mold to your face every time you do your makeup. It’s also important to wash your makeup brushes. And especially make sure to clean your beauty tools after you’ve been sick. (For example, if you’ve had pink eye you need to clean your brushes and get a new tube of mascara.)

 

As much as I love makeup, I think I love skincare more. There’s just something about feeling great in your bare skin that is indescribable. With summer just around the corner, I hope these tips help you achieve your perfect skin!
